One long Steam thread · Checked
Where to get logs
The usual complaint is that trees are everywhere and the log slot stays empty. The thread with the replies treats that as the game, not as a bug in every case.

What I checked
I read the Steam discussion “Where is all the wood?”. The original post and the replies describe a forest of unusable wood and a smaller set of logs that can be picked up. They name two uses: fuel and building. I did not walk a forest and count trees.
What the thread actually says
Players distinguish “wood in the world” from “a log you can carry”. The replies say you pick up particular logs rather than chopping every trunk. Those logs are what they put in the train as fuel and what they spend on construction. The thread does not give a map pin, a biome name, or a respawn timer.
Frostrail.org lists branches, logs and charcoal as the three fuels and says burn times are unpublished. Branches are that site’s word. The Steam thread I read says logs. I am not adding branches as a verified third item.
What this is not
Deconstructing a whole building for wood is a different search, covered with rubble and track blocks. The crowbar is not described as a logging tool. Charcoal, if it exists in your build, is the disputed kiln recipe, not a log you missed.

Questions people ask
Where do you get a log in Frostrail?
The Steam wood thread says specific logs can be picked up in the forest, not every piece of scenery. No coordinate is published.
Why can’t I chop the trees?
Replies treat most standing wood as scenery. They do not describe an axe recipe that turns every tree into logs.
What are logs used for?
The same thread says fuel and building. Burn time is not stated.
