Where the project stands

FakeFish, the Turku studio behind Barotrauma, is developing Frostrail. Shiro Unlimited is publishing it. Steam lists Windows only. The store page still says Early Access in Q4 2026, with no day and no price. The FAQ from 24 April 2025 says a number now would be misleading, and the price is set at launch.

The free demo is a separate Steam app, 5090080. It went live on 19 October 2026 and was first scheduled through 26 October. On 28 October the studio said it was extending the demo for a week. That post does not give a new end date or a clock time, so this site does not print 2 November as a fact.

What I checked

I read the Steam store page for app 3517740 and the 28 October 2026 news post, then checked the official demo trailer’s title, publisher and publication date. In the first store screenshot the headlight is on the right and the snow is green-grey. The cab screenshot labels Pressure, Speed and Consumption, and the temperature line reads −2.0°C. I have not played the build, so player-reported steps elsewhere on this site stay labelled as community reports.

Is Frostrail out?

No. The Steam store page, checked 29 October 2026, marks the game as coming soon, Early Access in Q4 2026. A free demo is already on Steam.

Is Frostrail free?

The demo (app 5090080) is free. The full game has no published price. Steam returns no price overview.

How many players can join?

Steam categories include Online Co-op, and the April 2025 FAQ plus the store text describe 1–4 players.

What engine does Frostrail use?

The 24 April 2025 Steam FAQ names Unreal Engine 5.
