How to save in Frostrail
Steam has not published a save guide. These are public test and demo reports, with the disagreement left in place. The Reddit thread predates the October demo; it does not confirm the current build.

Evidence note: The same publisher’s Steam store, API and news posts are not independent sources; information from that publisher alone remains single-source evidence. Community and fan reports remain attributed reports, not official confirmation. This page does not claim that every statement has been verified by two independent sources.

What I checked
I read the Steam threads titled around a missing manual save, lost progress, and “save is automatic through each tunnel”, plus the top reply on the r/Frostrail save post. I did not load a demo save myself. Where those posts agree, I say so. Where the fan guide Frostrails Wiki says the opposite, I keep both.
More than one source says the same thing
Several Steam threads describe the same behaviour: there is no manual save button, and progress is written when the train goes through a tunnel. An older Reddit reply also describes a tunnel checkpoint, but its phrase “current state” refers to that earlier test, not necessarily the October demo. People who quit in the open report losing one to three hours.
One thread says leaving to the main menu and coming back drops you at the first tunnel exit. Treat that as that thread’s report, consistent with “tunnels are the checkpoints”, not as a second system.
Where the sources split
Frostrails Wiki (single fan source) written during the demo says it did not find a save at all. That differs from the Steam threads and older Reddit reply above; different builds may contribute, but that explanation is not confirmed. I am not averaging them into “sometimes”. Player reports suggest reaching a tunnel before quitting, but this is not a guarantee of a current-demo save. All cited reports were accessible on 29 October 2026.
A separate thread says the save did not appear on a different PC, which reads as a local file rather than Steam Cloud. The store category list does not include Steam Cloud. Missing from a category list is a weak clue, not an official “no cloud” sentence.
No source yet
Whether a demo save carries into Early Access is not stated in any post I found. I am not guessing. The server-name bug (a name under four characters greys out Start) is a launch failure, not a save failure, and it lives on the troubleshooting page.

Questions people ask
How do you save in Frostrail?
Steam threads and a Reddit reply say the train writes progress when it passes a tunnel. No official key is documented.
Does the Frostrail demo have autosave?
Steam reports describe tunnel checkpoints; an older Reddit test report agrees, but does not verify the October demo. Frostrails Wiki (single fan source) says it saw no save. The current-demo behaviour is not settled by these sources.
Can you save the Frostrail server?
The same tunnel reports are what co-op players cite. Dedicated servers are not an official feature. Cloud transfer to another PC is not confirmed.
Will the demo save work in Early Access?
No official sentence. Left blank on purpose.
